Yame Gyokuro Matcha Powder is a premium powdered green tea made from 100% single-origin Yame tea in Japan. It is crafted from gyokuro, the highest grade of Japanese green tea, and presented with quiet elegance for those who value rarity, purity, and refinement.
This matcha-style gyokuro powder is packaged in a traditional Japanese paulownia wood box. Lightweight yet highly durable, paulownia wood has long been prized in Japan for its natural ability to protect contents from humidity and pests, helping preserve the tea’s quality, aroma, and vivid green color. After the tea is enjoyed, the box may be repurposed as a refined storage container, adding a subtle touch of Japanese beauty to everyday life.
This Yame Gyokuro Powder is exceptionally rare. Yame tea represents only about three percent of Japan’s total tea production, making it one of the country’s most limited tea-growing regions. Within this already small volume, 100% pure Yame gyokuro with no blending from other regions is extremely scarce. While many products labeled as Yame tea contain leaves mixed with tea from other prefectures, this tea is made exclusively from unblended Yame-grown tea leaves.
Yame gyokuro is prized for its natural sweetness and deep umami, with very little bitterness. Brewing with lukewarm or cooler water enhances these qualities, allowing the tea’s gentle sweetness and rich umami to emerge fully. Because this tea is in powdered form, the full essence of gyokuro is enjoyed in every sip.
As a powdered gyokuro, this tea is not limited to traditional preparation. Its rich and elegant flavor makes it ideal for refined culinary use, including Japanese sweets, wagashi, desserts, and gourmet dishes. It adds depth and sophistication to both traditional and modern creations.
This tea is completely pure and free from additives. It contains no fragrance, preservatives, coloring agents, sugar, or salt. Cultivated and harvested entirely in the Yame region, it reflects the natural sweetness and umami that define authentic Yame tea.
Yame tea carries a heritage of more than six hundred years. The region is especially renowned for gyokuro production, with first-harvest leaves reaching peak quality from mid-April to early May. Yame gyokuro is celebrated for its rich body, sweetness, and strong umami, shaped by the region’s climate, fertile soil, and generations of dedicated craftsmanship.
