This gorgeous Cactus Silk Moroccan Pillow Cover is hand-woven in Morocco and is simply beautiful. Its made of agave silk and has wonderful colors and textures. Agave plants are especially huge in Morocco. They are succulent plants that you can peel and the process then produces threads. These threads are coloured with gorgeous vegetable dyes. The Sabra killim pillows are then handwoven on traditional weaving looms making each pillow a little different.
These Moroccan imported cactus silk pillow covers add instant interest and texture. Each one is hand adorned with different patterns and markings in complimentary accent colors. Faded patches and stray threads are not flaws, but only add to the handmade authenticity. These pillow covers bring an air of casual sophistication to your space. They may even have your guests asking about all of your cultural travels! We recommend a 20” pillow insert, available but sold separately. (scroll down for insert options).
*Designer Tip: Try layering multiple pillows, grouped together they\'ll make a bigger statement and be much more impactful.
The process of their creation is a fascinating one: the spiky leaves from sustainable Saharan agave cactus are harvested, hammered and then soaked to release fibers. The fibers are then hand spun using traditional processes to make cactus silk. The silk is then combined with camel wool and handwoven on a loom to make cactus silk rugs that in turn are made into these vintage cushion covers. Colors are produced using natural vegetable and botanical dyes, so each one is chemical free.
These beautifully unique and handmade pieces from Morocco are handwoven & handmade. This fabric is also called Sabra and is made from the natural vegetable fibers found in the long Agave Cactus.
The process for making Sabra Silk or Cactus Silk has been the same for centuries.
The spiky leaves are crushed and soaked in water to separate the fibers and filaments, they are then washed and dried and spun to make silk threads.
It is traditional to keep the fabric as natural as possible, so many producers will only ever dye cactus silk with natural vegetable dyes. This process can take a long time, but when it is completed the colors are incredibly vibrant and beautiful.
CARE INSTRUCTIONS
Cactus Silk Pillow Cases are Dry Clean Only.
Please keep away from any liquids, as these products are naturally dyed vegetable dyed and getting them wet will most likely result in discoloration.
If you do get a mark on your Cactus Silk, we suggest you take it to be dry cleaned.
STUFFING YOUR PILLOW
You can stuff your cushion or ottoman with almost anything, from polystyrene balls (the same as bean bags), cushion inserts (feather or polyester) or craft fill, you can also use old clothing, or fabrics if you choose. It is an eco-friendly way to use up materials you may have stored at home which are waiting to be recycled.
