A beautiful pair of late 19th century French Louis XVI style armchairs, sourced in Provence. Handcrafted from solid hardwood, the frames retain their original painted finish in soft antique white with pale green accents, displaying a gently timeworn patina. Each chair has a shaped backrest with subtle cresting, framed by molded edges and rosettes at the corners. The arms are fluted and stop-fluted, with softened handholds that show natural rubbing from age and use. Designed as salon or occasional chairs, they are ideally suited for living rooms, studies, or bedrooms, rather than as dining armchairs. The seats are generous and well-proportioned, raised on turned and fluted legs with toupie feet and carved rosettes at the corner blocks — a hallmark of the Louis XVI style. Newly upholstered in a off-white wool fabric and outlined with dark nailhead trim, the chairs balance refined silhouette with comfort. The pair has been structurally revised in our workshop for stability, while preserving the authenticity of the original painted surfaces. Minor wear, paint rubbing, and traces of use contribute to the patina and underscore the craftsmanship.
