Detailed information on rare 1970s Stephen Burrows slip dress with zigzag stitching - XS/S

beautiful dress from iconic Black American designer Stephen Burrows, who made a name for himself in the 1970s with his simple but exquisite slip dresses meant for the elaborate parties of the era. if you watched the Halston series on Netflix, you remember that he was one of 5 American designers chosen to battle it out against French designers in the historic Battle of Versailles that took place in 1973. he\'s credited with creating the lettuce hem, and is known for often finishing his dresses with a prominent zig zag stitch, often in red thread. he is also a huge lover of jersey, using it in many of his dresses, meant to just slink around the body and not be worn with undergarments, which would interfere with the lines of the piece.

this dress is a great example of his work, featuring many of his most iconic elements - fits like a glove, with a barely there silhouette and feel, slinky jersey fabric, and prominent zig zag stitch, here in a tone on tone thread. it\'s always fun to have a piece from an iconic designer that actually illustrates what they are most known for. there are not many pieces from the 1970s from this designer, certainly not that really illustrate his design ethos, so this dress is rather rare and precious.

the colour is a champagne, with much more of a cool undertone than a warm gold. has a slight sheen to the fabric. features a slit on each side of the dress.

excellent vintage condition - no flaws and freshly dry-cleaned.

made in the USA. no fabric listed, but a jersey, most likely in rayon/viscose. no size marked, best fits US 0-2-4 (mannequin is a US 2). always check the measurements provided to ensure the correct fit, however.
