HOT ! Vintage Persian Hamadan Rug

The Hamadan region of western Iran is home to over 1,500 weaving villages, each with their own patterns, their own colour sensibility, and their own interpretation of the craft. No central workshop, no shared pattern book. What gets called a Hamadan rug is actually the product of hundreds of distinct communities, which is why these rugs have a character that more uniform weaving traditions simply cannot replicate.

This rug is hand-knotted from hand-spun wool on a cotton foundation, by weavers carrying skills passed down within their village for generations. The wool comes from hardy sheep grazing at high altitude in the surrounding mountains, dense and durable, built to hold its colour and structure over decades of use.

The design is bold and geometric. Diamond and hexagonal medallions, angular tribal patterns, worked with a directness that reflects where it came from. The colours have already settled and the pile has worn in. As a vintage piece, it has only improved with time.
